TEHRAN – An Iranian soldier was shot dead by an unknown group while on patrol on Delgan-Zehkoloot road in Sistan-Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran.

He was shot in the head as he and his colleagues were approaching a suspicious car, from which a barrage of fire was directed at them, Sistan-Baluchestan police chief Hossein Rahimi told Tasnim on Sunday.

The commander did not provide any detail about the identity of the group.

He said the soldier was a citizen of Kerman.
